This camp is designed for officials with all ranges of experience in the one referee/two linesman system who desire to become more exposed to the three-official system. The camp is an intensive weekend experience consisting of classroom, power skating and game experience. All game experience is evaluated and participants receive immediate feedback after their game experience. Officials wishing to attend this camp should aspire to officiate higher level games. Please note that participation in this camp is limited. Participants are expected to make their own arrangements for lodging and meals.
Male and Female Officials are encouraged to apply. Questions about the camp or for more information please email the WHOA Referee In Chief
Central District Officiating Camp
The Central District hosts an officiating development every Summer typically on the campus of Iowa State in Ames, IA. This camp is by invitation only and features many of the same opportunities that WHOA Camp offers.
Each men's regional camp (Eastern and Western) has 28 participants from their respective parts of the country. Participating officials range from 18-26 years of age and have a strong desire to develop and achieve assignments at higher levels of hockey. Other criteria for attendance include,
- Being an excellent skater
- Having a solid knowledge of all USA Hockey rules and interpretations
- Having a proficiency at working the three-official system
Additionally, the official must be willing to bring their aquired knowledge home to share with their local grassroots hockey officiating community.
The USA Hockey Officiating Program also conducts a Women's Regional Camp. A total of 12 female applicants between the ages of 18 and 35 will be invited to attend the session. This program is designed to identify and train female officials for future collegiate and international competition. The format and expectation of all participants is identical to the men's regional camp program.
Next in the hierarchy for a developing official is the Men's National Camp. USA Hockey invites 20 applicants from across the country to participate in this program, which offers a higher level of instruction and expectation than previous camps. To be considered an applicant must,
- Be between 20 and 29 years of age
- Have previously attended a USA Hockey Regional Camp
- Display a remarkable improvement in performance since Regional Camp
Once again, these officials are expected to share new information with their local grassroots hockey officiating community once they return home.
